1540.txt RPG Title: To Return A Wallet Themes: Mystery, Suspense, and a dash of Supernatural Synopsis: You find a wallet while out walking with no one around to claim it. The owner (and presumed address) is listed on identification inside. What story will be told as you try to return the wallet to it's rightful owner? Required to Play: Imagination... and a single piece of notebook paper with a pen or pencil. A six-sided die in a single player game. Number of Players: One to many. One person is The Keeper and plays the finder of the wallet who makes all decisions on what to do with it and it's contents. Other players guide the story and are known as The Collectors. In a single player game a six-sided die will play the role of The Collectors. Final Scenario: Either you keep the wallet, return the wallet, or die trying. You will never be able to lose or misplace the wallet. Player Roles: Decide on who will play The Keeper. If multiple players want to be the Keeper, the player with more items in their purse or wallet gets to decide who plays The Keeper first. All other players become The Collectors. The Contents of the Wallet: The Collectors decide the contents of the wallet. The more items in the wallet, the longer the story will be. A wallet will always contain a faded ID, such as a Drivers License or Library Card that will contain the owner's identity and address. It is assumed The Keeper does not know the owner, and that the address is out of the way but reachable. The Collectors decide the name and address. An uncommon, older name such as the one's listed below are suggested. Addresses that include a hidden meaning will also help to flavor the story. For a one player game, roll the six-sided die for the identity and address: -1 - Mortimer Smythe - 13 Alibaster Lane, Lot 666. (If this isn't an abandoned trailer park with pristine trailers and lawns, you are doing something wrong...) -2 - Esther Denbow - 100 Old Dorian Gray Road -3 - Jebediah Mercantile - 123 Mercantile-Willoby Avenue -4 - J.L. Winthrow - 99999 SR 100 -5 - Agatha Delacroix - The Nexus, Apt 401 -6 - Annabelle Lee - Decide other items found in a wallet... The Wallet Items are used to progress the story. Any item can be used logically to progress the story, such as using a quarter wedged in the wallet's folds to make a phone call at a nearby pay phone. Wallet items can be sacrificed to The Collectors for a good outcome to a conflict. Wallet items can be used in story (ie: spend money, falsify identity) but will allow The Collectors to progress the story in a troubling or problematic way. If The Keeper decides to keep the wallet. The story immediately ends. -1,2 - The Keeper keeps the wallet and life returns to normal. -3,4 - The Keeper's original wallet has disappeared. Their life will take a sudden unexpected turn and will be told in the next gaming session by the person that finds their wallet. -5,6 - The Keeper is compelled to take over the identity found in the wallet and begins living a new life based on it's contents. Any attempt to get rid of the wallet will result in it returning in a mysterious way as determined by The Collectors. Use the die results for a one player or a guideline for The Collectors to consult: -1 - When you return home, the wallet is in your mailbox or on your front step. -2 - When you reach in your pocket, your wallet has been replaced by the wallet you tried to get rid of. -3 - Same as above, but now there are blood stains on it. -4 - No matter where you dumped the wallet (threw it in a lake, left it on the subway), half an hour after a passerby exclaims, “Excuse me, you just dropped this.” and places the wallet in your hand before walking away. (If you throw away the wallet multiple times and roll a 4 each time, the story gets really cool) -5 - You quickly realize you just got rid of your own wallet. The other one is still in your possession. Maybe you can still reclaim yours. -6 - You are immediately compelled to retrieve the wallet no matter the risk. (If you just threw the wallet in a lake, you wade in after it. If you disposed of the wallet in a fiery furnace, you end your life attempting to retrieve it.) When you reach the address: -house abandoned for a long time, a forgotten mansion, underground parking garage, but there's an open manhole in the lowest level, an apartment number that doesn't exist, house is on fire, a pristine trailer with lots of creepy yard gnomes, etc...
